Hello,

Can anybody tell me what exactly to grind in an office exactly means in this case?

"It is in such as Frédéric that the hope of the world lies. You could not bribe Frédéric with a motor-car to grind in an office and help to starve and enslave his fellows."

Aleister Crowley, The Dream Circean, 1909

Thanks a lot.

To work in an office.

Your title was "grind in" suggesting that you think "grind in" might be a phrasal verb. It isn't in your sentence. It's the verb "grind" followed by "in an office". In a working context, "grind" means to work hard. It suggests that the person might not enjoy their job very much.
