[Grammar] Had you taken?/Did you take?

Hi,

I used a sentence " had you taken your lunch from back seat?" and the other person corrected me that its a wrong sentence. Should use "did you take ". Please confirm if i m wrong.

Without further context, the past simple appears ("did you take") to be the correct tense for the above. Did you have a reason for using the past perfect? Can you describe the context (the situation in which you used that sentence) for us please?
