Hello everybody!

Something has to be periodically greased with a hand grease squirt.

Does the bolded fragments mean "greased manually by applying small amount' or "a small hand-operated container for spraying a fine stream with"?

Could you help me?

I think they're talking about using a hand-held device.

.... for sprinkling things with, I think.

No doubt for lubrication.

They're talking about applying grease with a hand tool. Since they mention grease and not oil, they're probably referring to what are called 'grease guns' in the US.

You'll also hear a 'pump' or 'shot' of grease. Oil is applied in 'squirts' or 'pumps', often via an oil can (also known as an oiler).

The nozzle of a grease gun fits over a grease zerk, which allows you to force the grease into a sealed space.

I spent many an hour as a teenager going over tractors and implements, greasing all the various points before you could even begin the day's work.

A hand-held grease squirt sounds clearer.

You can spray a fine stream of oil (not the viscous type) but not grease.
