hard copy vs soft copy

I think "hard copy" is when you print out a computer file to a printer, getting a paper result, while "soft copy" is just copying your file to another device like USB, right?
 
Yes. Broadly speaking, anything you read on paper is "hard copy"; anything you read on a computer screen is "soft copy".
