Dear teachers,

Would you tell me your opinion about the interpretations of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

..I am sure that the window and the child whom you have over protected and loved will always have a corner in your heart. (W. Thackeray, “Vanity Fair”)

have a corner in somebody’s heart = to provoke tender feeling in someone, gain someone’s heart

Vanity Fair was written in 1848 and I would say this expression has been replaced by 'have a place in ...'

'I have a special place in my heart for her' - as per your definition, it means a particular fondness or affection.

Incidentally I think you mean 'bold' in your post, rather than 'bald', as the latter is how you describe someone without hair
