Yes. In casual use, go is a catch-all verb. It can replace nearly any action verb. You'll hear it used for "say" quite often on the lips of young Americans, though s/he's like has overtaken it in popularity for that use.

The quoted person does not understand how models are constructed and used in epidemiology. :-(
 
And probably doesn't want to.
