Emsr2d2, thanks for opening a huge can of worms by adding a space before my ellipsis in the OP of my last thread.

So, I did some research and found out that no space before and a space after an ellipsis is the Microsoft default style.

An ellipsis is always three dots ( ... ), but experts don't agree about the spacing between the dots. Nor do they agree if the full stop counts as a dot.

No 'huge can of worms' has been opened here. There are differences of opinion on this. Most of us don't worry about it.

I always put a space before an ellipsis. It looks much neater and stands out more. It also makes sense in that an ellipsis almost always replaces at least one missing word. You'd put a space if the following missing word were there in place, so why wouldn't you put a space before the substitution of the word?

I never add a full stop after an ellipsis. I think it's unnecessary.
