1. He never spends much even though he's rich.
2. He never spends much even if he's rich.
#1 is supposed to be correct. Is #2 also correct?
I think #2 is also acceptable because according to the link below, "even if" and "even though" can both be used to mean "despite the fact that."

No, 2 is wrong.

It's a very common learner error to get even though and even if confused. The dictionary example is confusing you—just ignore it for now.

I agree. The dictionary entry is not heplful in appearing to suggest these two expressions are interchangeable.

"He will never spend much even if he is/becomes rich" is OK, I think.
It doesn't mean the same thing as #1, though.
