In my language we have an expression that literally translates to "her eyes have dogs".

It means her eyes are very piercing and very beautiful in a way that everyone that see her falls in love with her! I don't know why they say it and why dog is mentioned.

Is there a similar idiom in English?

It's rather dated, but certain women were once said to have bedroom eyes so appealing to men that, well, the phrase tells you what emotion gazing at them evoked.

I've always thought bedroom eyes describes a certain lustful way of looking at someone rather than a general description of someone's appearance.

It works for me. It's not particularly common, and I wouldn't call it schmaltzy.
