Is the phrase "hide yourself from your own flesh" very old fashioned and no more used today except in the Bible and the related? According to New International Version, it means "to turn away from your own flesh and blood", which is understandable.

===================
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? (Isaiah 58:7)

NIV has this:

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

If you're suggesting that it was a 'phrase' in the sense of a commonly used expression, then no, I don't believe that's the case.

Did you get its meaning instantly when you read/hear it for the first time? Or did you get it after doing some research?

Did you get its meaning instantly when you read/hear it for the first time?

It depends what you mean by 'get its meaning'. There are sometimes different depths of understanding when it comes to certain kinds of writing (such as biblical texts). I did get something from it, yes, but then I'm familiar with reading this kind of text.

Which translation is the first version from? I guessed its meaning correctly, but I wasn't very confident until my guess was confirmed by the NIV translation.

Which translation is the first version from?

The ESV (English Standard Version), apparently.

I'd highly recommend GoodTaste stick with the NIV.

And not hide yourself from your own flesh?

I honestly would not have had a clue what this meant. (Not a Christian)
