[Idiom] his bit on the side/had a bit on the side

a. Did you know that she was his bit on the side?
b. Did you know that he had a bit on the side?

Are they both correct?
 
They are both grammatically correct.

Note that "a bit on the side" sounds like something from a 1970s sitcom. We don't really talk like that any more. We'd say "Did you know that he/she was having an affair with [name]?"

I suspect that the expression is still used by people who move in less exalted circles than you and I,
