Is one of the following sentences incorrect? If not, which one would be more common?

Burgers taste better when they're home-made. / Burgers taste better when they're homemade.
(Taken from a worksheet, no further source given - sorry!)

Is it a case of BrE and AmE, is it a regional difference or just personal preference?

It was originally hyphenated, but the single word version is more common nowadays, at least in AmE. I can't speak to BrE.

A quick check of several online dictionaries list it as one word.

The data below indicate that the unhyphenated version is considerably more common across varieties.
