I _____ I would be able to do it, but it's beginning to look difficult.
A. hoped B. had hoped

I chose A.

I think if I choose B, it should be written as "I had hoped I would be able to do it, but it was beginning to look difficult."

From a native's point of view, are both answers acceptable?

Am I right?

Thanks!

Jason

I _____ I would be able to do it, but it's beginning to look difficult.
A. hoped B. had hoped

Would this be better:

I hoped, I'd be able to do it, but it's look unlikely

I hoped, to be able to do it, but couldn't

I had hoped, I'd be able to do it, but it wasn't possible

I had hoped, I'd be able to do it, but it's looking unlikely

I'd hoped, to do it, but I wasn't able

I'd hoped, to do it, but it wasn't possible

However, I'm not a teacher

I understand your thinking and both those sentences are correct. However, people do say, "I had hoped I would be able to do it, but it's beginning to look difficult".

None of these is correct.
