Can you meet the 5:00 deadline?

Which is correct, the five o'clock deadline or the five deadline?

Why don't you tell us where you found that sentence, sitifan?

It's exceedingly tiresome to have to correct these punctuation errors in the text of an English teacher.

I found that sentence in Longman Advanced American Dictionary.
Which tie should I wear, the red one or the green one?

I think my punctuation is acceptable in American English, isn't it?

You'll see careless writers of all varieties omit quotation marks when they don't think they're necessary. But we enforce strict adherence to punctuation rules here and require them. Ignoring them is no more acceptable in American English than in any other kind.
