I'd also write "home town", as two words. Some might prefer a single word however. (This might be a BE-AmE difference. "Hometown" sounds AmE to me.) Other than that, it sounds fine. Unless this is family that you have never met before. If you're talking about going back to see Mom and Dad, then I would say that you went to see them. Or visit them.
