Which tense will come after "didn't know" when the second part still continuous?

1)I didn't know you had a car
2)I didn't know you have a car.

(He still has the car. The speaker just wasn't aware of it until recently.)

Both are fine in this context.

However, they don't mean that speaker wasn't aware of it until recently. In this context, the speaker is just finding out now.
