1. A and B are brothers. B gets a job and moves away from his father to a new city; he never returns, but one day after his father dies, he returns. A chastises B for his actions and claims that B never loved his father.
B says, "If I had not loved him, I would not have stayed here before I got this job; I would have moved to a new city years ago."
2. A and B are a married couple. One day they get into a fight and A says " you never cared about me even before we got married"
B says, "If I had not cared about you before getting married, I would not have married you."
Is that supposed to be "didn't love" and "did not care"?
