"When the band returned to the road on 16 July, it was for five club shows in Sweden. Brought up on the idea that Swedish girls were especially promiscuous – a Seventies view widely held at a time when Swedish porn was considered the best in the world – Bon was disappointed when the myth proved mightier than the reality. ‘That sh*t about them being promiscuous is a load of sh*t,’ he wrote home to a friend, complaining. ‘I had to pull myself twice!".
Mick Wall, "Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be".
What does the bolded mean?

I took this to mean, "I had to hold back twice!"

No. They were not interested in casual sex, so he had to take matters into his own hands for "relief."

The bolded phrase, "I had to pull myself twice," means that Bon Scott had to exercise self-control and refrain from pursuing romantic encounters, highlighting his disappointment that Swedish girls didn’t meet the stereotype of being promiscuous.

Do you really think a bunch of young men on the road, using drugs and getting drunk, playing in a rock and roll band, were about exercising self-control?
