I have never spoken in front of a lot of people because I am a very under confident person. But when I was at school during the assembly an activity was done. There was a box and a head boy had to take out chits from that box. On the chit the queue number and the number of the participant was written. I was wishing that I didn't have to go on stage but unfortunately the chit that was taken out had the numbers 3 and 12 means third row and twelfth student and that was me.

Please check my sentences.

I'll start. I'd use because I lack confidence in the first sentence.

The head boy was asked to draw lots from a box of names to decide on whom to give a speech on stage. I was unfortunate enough to be chosen.
