I heard of a girl hitting him.
I was wondering if hitting here functions as a present participle modfiying a girl or a gerund like she hates hitting him and a girl functions as a semantic subject like me in do you mind me smoking?

I am sorry about the poor examples, but I saw the expression somewhere and I was curious to know what it is. What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual.
