Hello everyone,

I have been asked a question and would like some help answering it.

Would, 'I, personally....' be grammatically correct or incorrect due to either the 'I' or 'personally' being redundant? I have heard arguments for both sides but would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,
Sam

I, personally, feel that 'personally' is not redundant.

If I write on this forum, "I feel that there is no future tense in English", the reader may believe that I am speaking as a retired teacher, somebody whose opinion might be expected to have some authority.

If, however I write "I, personally, feel that there is no future tense in English", it should be clear that I am giving my own, personal, opinion; it may well have no more value than that of anybody else, teacher or not.

Thanks for that, I'll be able to settle an argument now!
