Hi,

Would it be polite and common to use the second expression in answer to the first one? (Does it come from any card game or something?!)

'Would you like to stay for supper?'
'I think I'll pass!'

Is there any other common expression to use in answer, please?

I certainly wouldn't call that polite! It suggests that there is some rather unpleasant reason that you don't want to stay for dinner - perhaps you know that the person doing the cooking is a very bad cook or something like that.

The polite response to "Would you like to stay for supper?" is "Thank you very much for the offer but unfortunately I have other plans. Perhaps next time" or something similar. The response should certainly involve the phrase "Thank you".

I agree that that is impolite. You could say, Thank you, I've already eaten or I can't stay.

Thank you both! Yes! Actually, now that I watched the bit again I noticed there was dog food on the table making the person assume they were using the dog food as some ingredient! Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that if I thought I was about to be given dog food for dinner, politeness would be the last thing on my mind! Now that we know it was some kind of comedy sketch, the phrase is entirely appropriate.
