Hello,

this may be a stupid question but yet im gonna post it :D
in sentences like "...i thought i'd go home" or "i thought i'd give it a try", does the " 'd " stand for would?
like i said, stupid question, thanks though for answering!

Yes, I'd = I would.

Hi Puma,
There are no stupid questions, but permit me to say that there is such a thing as lazy writing, and failing to capitalize the pronoun I and using "gonna" instead of "going to" in a forum dedicated to learning standard English falls into that category.

People will do their best to help you in this forum; please reciprocate by doing your best to write in standard English.

Anyway, you are absolutely correct that "I'd" is for "I would" in those sentences. "I'd" can also be "I had" so you need context to know which is it.

Hi again,

thanks for the answers!
It's true, I was kind of lazy, sorry for that. :)
I'll take care of that from now on!

And please forgive me for failing to welcome you to Using English.

Welcome to Using English!
