I thought you say

Hi guys,

Like how we say "I heard you say or I saw you do this". Do we need to say "I thought you say" or "said"?
 
No, I thought you [past].
I thought you said...
I thought you did..
 
Please also explain why we don't say "I thought you said" but not "I heard you said"?
 
You can in certain contexts.

I heard you say (= I was present when you said it and heard it)
I heard you said (= Someone informed me that you said this)
 
'See' and 'hear' are verbs of perception, so the infinitive is used after the object.

Not a teacher.
 
So it is applicable to hear and see only
