I thought you told me you barricaded

Source: "Lockdown: 2025", a movie (timestamp: 54m00s).

A father told a son to barricade the backdoor to their house. The son supposedly did that, but still someone with a gun entered the house. The father had to shoot him. After that, the father is angry with the son and says to him:

I thought you told me you barricaded the backdoor.

I wonder if the sentence would be natural with the past perfect "you'd barricaded" in place of the simple past "you barricaded."
