I wish I was / were offered that post

Hello,

Could you please help me with this sentence?

“I wish I was / were offered that post.”

Should we use was or were?

Probably "I wish I had been offered that post."

I wish I were working in that position now.

It's like If I were/was- purists prefer the subjunctive, but many speakers use was.

But Americans are much more likely to be purists in that regard.

It's common in BrE- we use the past subjunctive. It's the present subjunctive that doesn't get much use in the UK.

Does it show up in set phrases like "If I were you" or am I more likely to hear "If I was you"?

And thanks. All I can hear now is "If I were a rich man," (and a bunch of humming).
