source: entrance exam

I wonder if you’d mind bringing/fetching John from next door. He’s wanted on the phone.

Which is the correct answer? I’d like to know why the other one is not possible.

Note that the source information should appear after the quote. "Entrance exam" isn't enough information. An entrance exam where and written/published by whom?

First of all, nobody would ever say that. So you could argue that none of it is possible.

Abe: I wonder if you'd mind fetching John from next door.
Bob: Why didn't you use "bringing" instead of "fetching"?
Abe: I don't know. It never occurred to me. Would you mind going to get him?

If it was a math problem and you knew the answer was Y, would you ask "Why isn't it X?" You wouldn't, would you?
