I work from home. How else would I be at home with the kids all the time?

My friends ask me how I'm always at home with the kids. I say:

I work from home. How else would I be at home with the kids all the time?

VS

I work from home. How else am I at home with the kids all the time?

Are both okay?

Only the first one works for me.

I'd also use the first but change 'would' to 'could'.

May I say "I work from home, otherwise how could I be at home with the kids all the time?"?
