Could you explain what the following phrase means:

I’d punctured the skin again and again before it ever had a chance to heal.

Elenichka, it's a sentence – not a phrase.

The sentence does not say that. It says the person made new wounds before the old ones had healed. The reader may assume the wounds will heal, but it's not stated.
