Can I ID something?

Although 'ID' is widely used as if it were an abbreviation of 'identity' or 'identify [ain't that something - the consonant changes the vowel sound...But I digress, where was I - oh yes, close quote]', the D stands for 'document'. I'm pretty sure you can't 'ID this information'.
