I've been trying to find an idiom that relates to the following expression:
Settling for the immediate benefit and forgoing a better outcome which required patience ,effort or courage.
The idea to convey is that: You end up settling for less than what you could have got because you couldn't go all the way (and thus harm yourself).
I want to use it in a negative sense.
It touches the themes of : shortsightedness , chickening out & taking the easy way out.
