Hi,

Could anyone please tell me what this idiom means?

They all managed to run away but the remaininig guys were caught on the hook.

Thanks.

Please provide some more of the context.

Dear Grumpy, it's just a sentecse and I have to know the meaning of ON THE HOOK, because I have to write an exmaple as a sentece,It's not a part of a context,So I cannot explain more:-(
Any help?

Without more context, it's not possible to say what this means.

It's a poor sentence to test the meaning of the phrase, which isn't an idiom that I have heard. It could mean that they were caught at that time or in that place. However, context is always essential for understanding meaning.

Thanks to all.

"On the hook" means that you are responsible for something.

He had been paying her the interest on the loan, but he's still on the hook for the $10,000 of the original loan.
