Please help me with one sentence.

Context: I chatted with my friend who I hadn’t seen for a while at an English club tonight. He's a college student now and we met each other a year ago. During the conversation, we've been catching up for a while and I told him that I actually planned to take the IELTS exam in April but I still haven’t taken it yet. He asked me why, I said:

I think I’m just procrastinating. Sometimes if you don’t want do anything, you’ll cook up many excuses for it.

Then I told me that the excuses I made up. In April, I said I was still preparing for it. In May, I didn't have enough money. In June, I was busy because I had a student who I needed to tutor every day....

Is my sentence natural?

See above.

@Silverobama What was your excuse for not taking it in July? What about August? Are you planning to take it before we wave goodbye to 2024?

I didn't have enough money and I was not confident enough. I was afraid of failure or not getting a satisfactory score.

I might take it next year.
