I'm going to go to shopping mall.
or I'm going shopping mall.

Is the second sentence grammatical? One of my students insists that it is grammatical. She says I have seen that somewhere but I don't agree.

Neither's grammatical.

I'm going to go to A/THE mall: I intend to go to a/the mall [or] I'm planning to go to a/the mall.

I'm going to A/THE mall: Depending on context, this could mean "I intend to go to a/the mall" (the same as the first sentence) or "I'm on my way to a/the mall".

Your student probably means 'I'm going shopping (to a/the mall)' and the two sentences just got mixed up. It happens to my students all the time and the worst part is that they are positive they are right. They keep saying they have definitely seen it somewhere, until we just google what they say in quotes and the search shows zero results to that combination of words. And then it turns out my students just mixed up two phrases/collocations.

I'd respectfully suggest you don't use Google to prove a point to your students. They aren't as likely to take you seriously if you do. :)
