Is this sentence correct or should I change parts of it?
I'm going to meet a wiener dog who had grown up in a Rio de Janeiro favela but later in life, he somehow managed to get onboard a ship at the copacabana which brought him to Manila, where he now works in a kindergarten and entertains the children.

Yes it's a dachshund or "sausage dog".

[STRIKE]which[/STRIKE] The ship brought (I'd use "took" but there's an argument for "brought" if you're speaking from Manila)him to Manila, where he now works in a kindergarten, [STRIKE]and[/STRIKE] entertaining the children.

See above.

Some people might suggest you use "which" instead of "who" when talking about a dog. I'm happy with "who".

Why not "had grown up"? I thought it's a completed action in the past which happened before another completed action.

I'm not speaking from Manila at the moment but nevertheless, I thought "brought" can be used in AmericanEnglish.
