Hello!
I'm writing a proposal for programmes about unusual hobbies.
I have a question related to the use of an article in the following sentence:

"I'm sure that in <a><the> world where most people's lives are trivialized and flattened your decision to make a series of programmes featuring unusual hobbies will be warmly welcomed by viewers".

I wonder what article I should choose in this sentence. I would use the because I speak about our world, but my English teacher insist upon a.
To be honest, I don't understand why. As I see it, a means any world, not only ours.
Perhaps we could use both?
Could you be so kind as to explain to me your choice please?
I would really appreciate it!

Thank you so much in advance.

Your teacher is correct.
To be honest, I don't understand why.
The word "world" in "in a world where" roughly means global situation/global social environment. It is not a single unchangeable thing. I mean, we can do things to change it. Thus, we use "a", not "the".
Perhaps we could use both?
No.

The phrase "in a world where" has become a set phrase. Accept it, learn it and use it.

It's an imagined scenario by you; other people would imagine it differently.
