Hi everyone! đź‘‹
I’ve been exploring how adult learners use English in real-life work situations — especially in caregiving, healthcare, hospitality, and similar roles. One thing I’ve noticed is that many ESL programs don’t always focus on the types of conversations that happen on the job: like dealing with a patient, speaking with a manager, or filling out a workplace form.

I’m curious — as teachers, learners, or professionals, what specific real-world topics do you think should be covered more in ESL training?
Examples might be:
  • Role-playing workplace conversations
  • Understanding workplace jargon/slang
  • Cultural differences in communication
  • How to ask for help or clarification at work
Would love to hear your thoughts! I’m part of a team that’s been researching this space, and I’m trying to collect as many perspectives as possible

Are you an ESL teacher? Do you have any suggestions for them (ESL teachers)?
