[Grammar] in or on Ville's Rooad

- Sands Mall is in/on Ville's Road

I thought the answer is 'on', but the answer key says 'in'.

Ville's Road is a stretch of road. Why is 'in' the correct answer?

I suspect it's a mistake.
The correct answer should be "on."

I think it might depend on whether the author, or publisher, was using BrE or AmE.

From what I have seen it looks as though AmE would use "on", whereas it appears that BrE would now be more likely to use "in".

However, just to buck that trend, my natural inclination was to use "on", probably because my education was in the 1980s when its usage peaked in BrE.

Our AmE speaking members will be able to confirm what they would actually use.

I agree with Teechar, it must just be a mistake.

Addresses and locations are 'on' such-and-such street, at least in AmE.

I made the mistake of "correcting" "in the street" when I was first here. It's certainly a difference in American and British usage.
It sounds to Americans like the houses are where the traffic goes, which is what "in the street" means to us, but not in the UK and places where British English is used.

I have always found it odd that British houses are in the road/street.
