What do you, englishhoppy, mean by an/the English summer, please?

I imagine s/he means a summer of the sort that one experiences in England. There is nothing unusual about this construction.

And if I say "I like __ English summer (in geneal)", will it be OK without an article?

Or "I like English summers".
