Hello,

Is the following sentence correct:

"The man doomed himself by entering that fight"?

What does "doomed himself" mean?

He entered a fight (or any other situation) which was certain to end badly for him.

He had effectively sealed his own fate by taking part in the fight.

In this context, "doomed" can mean anything from being killed to simply suffering the embarassment of losing the fight.
