Is it common in English to say 'Thursday nights' instead of on Thursday nights'?

I saw this sentence in a film. 'We have a regular game Thursday nights, just some friends I went to school with'.

Is it common in English to omit the preposition 'on' in this situation?

Yes, it is getting common to omit the preposition before the day of the week.

I think it's always been quite common in AmE. It's not very common in BrE and I haven't noticed it becoming more so.

It sounds totally natural to the American ear.

I'd say it's fairly common in British English.
