I should choose one between 1 and 2 which can be placed in the blank and suit for sentence below.
"The tree producing the dye was ___________and gave its name to the country."
1.called as brazilwood/ 2.called brazilwood
Of two options, I choosed 1(called as brazilwood) because I saw some sentences including "called as".
In contrary to my previous thought, the answer is 2, and there are some words in the explanation "call A B", "A be called B".
Can't I both use 1.called as brazilwood/ 2.called brazilwood?

Only #2 is correct.

Oh!!!! If I hadn't questioned this, I would have never known. THANK YOU!

And you "chose." "Choosed" is not the past tense of "choose."
