Hi.

I was eating with my student Nina and a friend Sun. Nina has a car but Sun doesn't. Sun is a woman so I asked Nian if she could send her home. I asked Nina "Is it okay for you to drive her home?" I wonder if the question is natural.

Could you give Sun a ride home?

In colloquial BrE it sounds as if you are asking if Nina is fit to drive Sun home.

Sun is a woman so I asked Nian if she could send her home.
That sentence is a non sequitur: the conclusion doesn't follow from the premise. What does Sun's gender have to do with your desire to have Nian take her home?

I wonder if "Nian" is a name used in the US. Or perhaps it was a typo. I don't understand why you asked the question is just like you don't understand why I asked Nina to take Sun home. In China, at least in my city, it's not safe for a man or a woman to go home alone. I can take a bus while Nina can give a Sun a ride. Was it wrong for me to say that?

I copied the name from your text. I thought it was a Chinese name. :)

You wrote "Sun is a woman so I asked Nian if she could send her home." That means you asked Nina to take Sun home because Sun is female.

Sorry, my bad. I didn't read my post again after I posted it.

I wonder if it's natural to say "Can you give her (Sun) a ride home".
