It's wrong. You could use 'on the other hand'.
'On the contrary' is not redundant - it's wrong. 'On the other hand' is not necessary, but it is not redundant if you wish to emphasise the advantage of the good pay.[STRIKE]Can[/STRIKE] Isn't [STRIKE]not[/STRIKE] the following sentence sufficient to convey the meaning: The job was not interesting but it was well paid......?
