Is there a better way to greet someone when you're calling them on the phone if the reception answers.

I usually just say: Yah, may I speak to Tamar Cole.

"May I speak to Tamar Cole, please."

Why do you say "Yah"?

I don't know is it rude to say "yah"? Because the person who answered didn't sound impressed...

I think it's rude.
Usually you identify yourself.

At the very least, say "hello" or "good morning/afternoon."

"Yah" isn't even a real word!

What about this?
Hey! May I see her,please?

Are you playing games here?

The thing is, "hey" is too informal a word to use in this context. It might be OK as a greeting, for instance, at a party with your close friends.

Not a teacher.

When you are phoning a company or, indeed, phoning anyone who you expect to be polite to you, you should be polite to them. Open with "Hello" or "Good morning/afternoon/evening", then "May I speak to XXX please?" In rare circumstances, I might open with "Hi" but probably only if phoning something like a food delivery company (takeaway restaurant, when I might say "Hi. Can I order a delivery please?"

After 'Hello', it's also polite to identify yourself before asking to speak to somebody. It saves the receptionist the trouble of asking you to do so.

Polyester, you can't see somebody through a telephone.
