Yes. 'Due to' is acceptable, 'thank to' is not.

"Thank to" is not "thanks to."

You can use "thanks to" to express sincere or ironic "credit" for something. Thanks to my wife's support I have been able to win this Nobel Prize.

"Due to" is emotionally neutral. You are not expressing thanks (sincere or not) to anything, you are just expressing causality.

So they are not the same.
