Can we use this instead of it here? If yes, will the meaning be completely the same?

His cat's name is Alice. This is (corrected) /It’s a nice cat.

"It's a nice cat" is the most natural thing to say. "It's is a nice cat" is wrong.
 
Sorry, it was a typo. I wanted to know if This is a nice cat would sound unnatural or OK in the given context. :?:
 
It sounds unnatural.
 
We usually use he/she to refer to our pets.
With the name "Alice" -- She is a nice cat.

And if it's not the speaker's cat, would it be OK to refer to it as "it" (in the absence of the owner of ther cat)? ;-) :?:
 
Yes. It's always OK to refer to an animal as 'it'.
