It’s the first day back at school for a lot of students in the UK Today.

1. Why is it "back at school" while the one below [white text] is "back to shool"?
2. Could we say It’s the first day back to school for a lot of students in the UK Today? Would it mean the same as the originial?

[Edit: Changed "Does" to "Would"]

Pupils (‘students’ is more of an American word for primary and secondary school children) have to go back to school after the long summer holiday. Once there, they are back at school.
