It's the first time + tense

This qustion has been discussed here a few times, but I still havn't got a simple answer to the following situation:

I am sitting in a car. I am driving it and making mistakes. When the instructor asks me why I am so stupid, I smile back and... say what?

1/ It is the first time I dove the car (I am still driving it, when asked)

or

2/ It is the first time I have driven the car

or

3/ It is the first time I am driving the car

I know that version 3, though quite logical as I am still in the process of driving, is somehow incorrect. What about the other two?

Number 2 is closest to what a native Anglophone might say. Try This is the first time I've driven a car.

Thank you for the reply, yet I had seen them all and comming up with the situation described above... What is the right tense for my action while I am in the process but use This (It) is the first time... ?

Suppose you're in the driver's seat in this scenario. You could say "This is the first time I've ever driven a car!"
