At the first glance of "Join the fab team", I guessed it meant "Join the excellent team" and indeed "fab" means fabulous/excellent in Cambridge Dictionary.

The question here is: Would American English speakers understand "the fab team" immediately as British English speakers? It seems to me that American speakers are not very familiar with such use. I am not sure.

"Fab" is slang from my teenage years (the 1960s) and thus sounds very dated to me.

Understood in the tweet you quoted. (AmE)

I still use it a lot, along with "Cool!" I've even been known to use "Groovy!"

And after hearing your use of "groovy", those within earshot choked on whatever they were eating or drinking -- or nothing at all.

I've only recently stopped exclaiming 'zounds!' and 'gadzooks!'

My first thought was you were involved in some kind of fabrication.
